Make report archives usable.
wellbrief turns daily drilling reports, incident reports, and end-of-well reports into a searchable local archive. Engineers can ask about previous incidents or prepare a risk brief for a planned well using evidence from nearby wells.
It ingests text, Markdown, PDF, DOCX, and CSV files into SQLite. Structured filters narrow the search by field, well, section, formation, and incident code before BM25 and word-and-character hashing rank the evidence.
Trace every figure to its source.
SQL computes non-productive time and cost from the event ledger. Risk briefs rank recurring problems by expected cost and quote mitigations from source reports. A verifier checks citations, numbers, and named wells against the assembled evidence.
The default narrator uses templates and needs no language model or network connection. An optional LLM can phrase the findings; responses that fail verification fall back to the deterministic narrator, with the rejection recorded.
Evaluated with inspectable evidence.
The published default-seed run passed all 52 extended evaluation cases on a synthetic drilling corpus. The verifier also caught all 20 injected faults across four fault types, including altered quotes, unsupported numbers, and incorrect document or well references.
The results describe synthetic data. New report templates need parser configuration, and scanned PDFs without a text layer are not supported. Briefs are intended for review by a qualified drilling engineer.
